There are many things in life that you CAN do, but SHOULDN'T do. Most of the things you shouldn't do will cause you some grief later on! The same holds true in the field of Search Engine Optimization. There are some search engine optimization techniques that "work" but they actually try to use the system against itself, instead of working with the legitimate use of the system.

There are many excellent articles and discussions about Black Hat SEO practices. There are also many sites that will call you a wimp and a crybaby, if you don't use these techniques because it's all about greed and making a buck!
