Photoshop page size
When you first open PhotoShop, it
doesn't open a page of a specific size, like a word processor
does, because each graphic has its own size. You will open a graphic
that has its own size, or you will create a graphic of a specific
size.
PhotoShop uses floating palettes.
As you work on your graphics, you want
to be able to tell PhotoShop to do many tasks. The palettes let
you get to those tasks quickly. However, there are so many tasks
available, the palettes take up a great deal of your workspace.
Close all the palettes you don't need by clicking the X
in the upper right-hand corner.
The floating palettes can be moved
around the page by clicking and dragging the blue title bars.
Of
all the palettes, you will probably use the Tools the most. Some
of the tools have a little black triangle beside them. If you
right click on the little triangle, a list of variations of that
tool will appear.
Each tool has many options that affect how
it works. The Options Bar is usually located right under the main
Toolbar. When you click a tool, the Options will change to show
the options specific to that tool. Options tool bar for the Magic Wand Tool Options tool bar for the Marque Tool
Many of the tools in the Tool Bar are for chosing
areas of a graphic. For example, you may want to choose an area
with a certain color so you can change the color. Here are the selection tools:
1. The Marquee Tool:
chooses an area in a rectangle or oval.
2. The Lasso Tool: chooses around a specific
shape. This is very handy when you want to highlight a specific
item from one picture and copy and paste it onto another picture.
The magnetic lasso is a variation of the lasso tool that helps
you draw right up against the edge of the object. Click
here for an example. The school bus was highlighted
with the magnetic lasso tool.
3. The Magic Wand Tool: chooses a color area.
For example, if you want to make the sky a bit bluer, you can
use the magic wand to choose the sky without having to draw a
line around it.
